'Possuuuummmss....!!!

For those of you who don't get the title of this post...I'm truly sorry. I'm willing to bet that Aaron Q. will get it, though.

I've been housesitting for a family from my church this week. Their cat, Max, can be let outside for days on end. Last night, I went outside to see if I could call him back. I saw something hop up on the railing, thinking, "Oh. There he is." So, I turn on the porch light to see something that made me jump...



This was one of the largest opossums (or possums?) I've ever seen. He/She was actually kind of cute, despite the long, freaky-looking tail, which, now that I think about it, reminds me of this guy...



He was just kind of chilling out, scratching himself, and looking generally lazy and relaxed (which is probably the reason they don't get out of the way of cars). I quickly and softly went out to my car to get my camera. He was still there when I got back. I walked outside, not too close to him, to get some shots of him. Here's a couple more, including one of him yawning (which he did several times -- and real big yawns, too)...





This morning, the mom of the house called me to find out how things were going. I told her about her wildlife, and she told me that she's seen baby 'possums around there. I guess I saw the mom or the dad.
