The Nativity Story

This afternoon, my parents and I went to see The Nativity Story. I'm so psyched that Hollywood is actually presenting movies that claim to be biblical that are actually biblical. I highly recommend this movie.

I find it really annoying when cell phones go off during movies, especially when there's a message at the beginning saying to turn them off. Right when Jesus was born, someone's cell phone alarm went off...and kept going off. Of course, I was thinking, How dare that person not turn off their cell phone at a time like this! But then, the verse about "the stones crying out" came to mind. Then I thought, Everyone's cell phones should be going off right now!

This movie did SUCH a great job. It presented Joseph and Mary as real people. Mary's parents did NOT believe her at first, nor did Joseph, and there was very much a sense of Joseph and Mary realizing that their lives will be changed completely, and that people will not look at them the same. "Joseph, being a righteous man..." Many people wouldn't see him as righteous now, choosing to still marry someone who now has a child by supposed fornication.

The best overall blessing I received from the movie was the very real sense of God willing to condescend and actually give this gift of His Son to humble people. Things like when Joseph was straightening out the hay in the manger before putting Jesus in it. The angel saying to the shepherd, "for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." In other words, Christ the Lord, as a baby, in a FEEDING TROUGH. Wow! They even had Mary say part of her song in Luke 1.

Anyway, go see the movie!
